As the temperature reached 30 or more during another sweltering Labour Day Parade, Hamilton’s unions and politicians are preparing to turn up their own heat against Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath called on unions Monday to join her to as she confronts Ford and his Progressive Conservative government as it prepares to weaken current labour legislation.

Ford wants to freeze minimum wage at $14 per hour rather than increasing it to $15, which is scheduled to take place Jan. 1, 2019. Business groups have called the new Conservative government of Ford’s to repeal the legislation.

“Thank you for the work you will be doing for us over the next four years so we can keep our foot on the neck of Doug Ford and kick him the hell out of office in four years’ time,” Horwath told workers during the Labour Day event at Bayfront Park.
